There is a new carbonated alcoholic beverage in the store: mead from Charm City Meadworks. Charm City thought "out side of the box" when making their mead....usually thought of as  'honey wine' that is sweet, slightly viscous, and consumed in great quanitities at the Renissance Festival...making a drink that is  "dry" and carbonated. They also make a dry still mead wine but that is not the focus of  my little dissertation.  The idea of a dry, carbonated mead peaked my curiosity, so two cans came home with me to try: Basil Lemongrass and Wildflower.  The Basil Lemongrass taste strongly of basil, with background notes of the lemongrass....this would be perfect with Italian is fresh, herb-y and very clean tasting, with the addition of some bourbon, it would make a great Basil Bourbon Lemonade! The Wildflower is very crisp and dry, more like a sparkling white wine. I found both of these to be "interesting", in  a positive sense...they remind me more of a shandy than a full on beer...but than again...mead. . Both would be very refreshing on a hot summer day....and no how  out of season the weather has been, we will have very hot summer days. While these lack a heavy taste and have a light mouth feel, they  both come in at 6.9% abv, which is  higher than average for beer.  If you like shandies, if you like to try something new, if you  just want to support a Maryland business, or if you  are curious, like I was,  you  owe it to yourself to try Charm City Meadworks carbonated meads...they are in the store...if you don't see them on the floor in the beer section, please ask for them at the counter...we will be happy to get you  a 4 pack, or even just a single can to try.......and that's the buzz for today.
